What's up, God?
what’s up with looking down on others?
aren’t we all just sisters and brothers?
why make clubs and bands and cliques?
why build walls or pull mean tricks?
why paste fake smiles on a face
when love that’s real is wrapped in grace?
what’s up with acting all superior?
like you’re as clean as your exterior?
Jesus called them filthy graves-
For He’s the only One who saves
us from insecurity
only He gives purity
make me clean, Jesus
There are a few people at school here who aren’t very popular. They don’t fit in so well and as a result, get picked on. I don’t get that. Just because we aren’t all the same, why do we build barriers and separate ourselves?
Â
beneath our layers of fashionand hair and pretension
aren’t we really the same?
don’t we breathe the same air?
pump red blood through our vein? aren’t we made up of bone and flesh and DNA?
so what’s the big deal?
why go and differentiate?
why not simply celebrate
that we are really the same
the same underneath
and our differences are only skin deep
Â
I’ll admit that sometimes I am guilty of this. The same thing that makes the blood boil beneath my skin. So I’m here God, at your feet. Begging forgiveness. God, cleans me, purify me, make me holy in Your sight, make me beautiful and pure to Your eyes. Help me to love everyone no matter what their background or who they are. Isn’t that what it’s all about?
Â
No matter their looks,
No matter their style,
No matter what color of skin,
It’s all about love, that’s what God says
It’s all about grace and kindness,
So what do we do when the goin’ gets tough,
All we gotta do is go to it with love
